Cruelty-Free Gift Guide 2017

Cruelty-Free Gift Guide 2017

Yes it’s almost that time of the year again. Gift-giving season is fast approaching but there's no need for despair - we've got you covered. This year, why not make your shopping experience a positive one by buying your friends and family cruelty-free gifts that make a difference? Here are our top 6 suggestions for gifts that do just that:

1. Cruelty Free Beauty Hamper

There are so many amazing companies around producing gorgeous, cruelty-free beauty products these days. A few of our favourites, that are free from any animal-derived ingredients and are never tested on animals, include Perfect Potion, Cedar and Stone and Lush. As an added bonus these companies also do a range of beautifully presented gift boxes so there’s no wrapping required.

     2. Vegan Wine

A bottle of wine makes a great gift, but most people don’t realise that animal products are used in a process called fining in order to produce most wines. Fining uses an external agent, such as egg yolk, casein derived from milk, gelatine or isinglass (a fish-derived product) to remove insoluble substances in the wine and carry them to the bottom. There are, however, an increasing number of winemakers producing great quality wines without the use of animal products and these will be labelled as vegan. You can also speak to your local wine merchant or check out this website to find vegan-friendly wines.

    3. Vegan Cookbook

Who doesn’t love a good cookbook to drool over? There are so many gorgeous vegan cookbooks to choose from that provide loads of inspiration for those following a plant-based, animal product-free lifestyle. We particularly love Taste for Life by Animals Australia and Cooking with Kindness by Pam Ahearn (of Edgar’s Mission). Not only do they contain loads of mouth-watering recipes, your purchase helps support the amazing work they do protecting animal rights and promoting animal welfare.

    4. Sea Shepherd Merchandise

Sea Shepherd does an amazing job protecting our oceans and the creatures that inhabit them. They have loads of great merchandise to choose from that would make great gifts, such as t-shirts, caps and beach towels. Any of these would be a particularly good gift for that broody, angst-ridden teen niece/nephew. You’ll earn favourite relative status guaranteed!

    5. Vegan Leather Handbag, Shoes or Wallet

Ok we’re going to do some shameless self-promotion here! Humankind stocks a gorgeous range of vegan leather, 100% cruelty-free bags, shoes, wallets and belts that would make a perfect gift for you animal-loving friend or family member. We also donate 10% of profits to animal charities working at the frontline to improve the lives of animals.

    6. Charitable Donation

Do you have a friend or family member who is especially altruistic and shuns materialism in any form? If so, why not make a donation to your favourite animal charity on their behalf? There are so many fantastic causes to support. A few suggestions include Animal Liberation, who's primary work is conducting research and providing information about animal suffering in Australia, Sea Shepherd, who as mentioned above work tirelessly and fearlessly protecting our oceans and its inhabitants and Humane Research Australia, who speak out against animal experimentation and promote scientifically valid, humane alternatives.

We hope the above suggestions provide you with plenty of inspiration for buying your friends and family gifts that they will not only love but that also make a difference this holiday season. Happy cruelty-free shopping!
